Youth of the Month

“Youth of the Month” - Emily Graham

Emily Graham is a 17 year old, eleventh grade student, attending Oroville High School in Okanogan County. Emily is a starting varsity basketball, soccer, track, and softball player. She is a class officer, honor roll student, and Supervisory Border Patrol Explorer.

Emily is an active member of the Northeast Zone competing on her 12 year old AQHA/ABRA dun mare Proof Reed AKA: Dancer. She is also a member of the American Quarter Horse Junior Association, American Buckskin Registry Association, Inland Empire Buckskin Horse Association, Washington State Thoroughbred Breeders Association and Washington State Horsemen. Emily was a recipient of a broodmare through the Washington State Thoroughbred Breeders Association.

With all of her activities and projects it’s a wonder she can find time to ride! Amazingly, since 2005, she has logged over 6000 miles with the NEZ trails and pleasure. Emily has won numerous high points, trophies, and accolades for her achievements in sports, academics, and horses. She was awarded the Washington State Horsemen’s Junior Inspirational Award in 2005.

Emily has been showing horses since she was nine. She got her dun mare “Dancer” in 2002. Dancer was broke, but had never been shown. Emily has attended clinics, watched videos, and practiced to achieve her goals with Dancer. Showing in English and Western, this year she won 5 Circuit Awards at the IEQHA summer show, highpoint youth at the IEQHA ABRA show, IEBHA highpoint youth for the third year in a row, PEAC open highpoint youth, and completed eight ROMs with the ABRA. She also won the highpoint performance and highpoint overall youth at the Okanogan County Fair.

On Frontier Sierra x Frontier West in Youth and Adult English classes she won 36 firsts out of 40. This is a horse that she broke and trained herself.

Emily is thoughtful and caring. From a helping hand to mentoring younger kids she is always willing to give. A week doesn’t go by that someone comments on how well they like Emily. The comments from elderly people saying what a wonderful girl that she is are especially nice. She goes out of her way to say “hi”, give them a hug, and always seems to find the time to visit. Younger riders see Emily as a role model.

Emily plans on attending college with hopes of making an NCAA equestrian team. Thank you for recognizing Emily as Horse Previews Magazines “Youth of the Month”.

Sincerely, Mr. & Mrs. Richard M. Graham Jr.
