Twenty years ago a group of Fjord Horse breeders got together and formed a group that was named the Pacific Northwest Fjord Promotional Group. The original organizers got together with the Nordicfest committee in Libby and decided to put together a full fledged show which has now grown to three days of classes, parade, clinics and just plain fun! The Libby Nordicfest is a celebration of all things Norwegian, food, crafts, music and dance along with the Fjord Horses.
This should be one of the best shows that we’ve ever had! We’re trying to put more of a “fun” aspect back into the show. There will be several classes just for 4 in Hands. There are lots of Fillers and Demo’s being planned as well as some just for fun silly things for those that really don’t want to show but like to have fun with their horses.
Friday morning at 10am we start our Halter classes, Friday afternoon is a day to just have fun with your horses or go into town and sample the good food or check out the craft booths or the quilt show. Those of you that might be interested in these horses might want to drop by on Friday afternoon since there won’t be any structured activities and visit with the “Fjord people” and their wonderful horses.
Saturday morning at 10am is the parade, after the parade at 1pm we will be starting the show. Saturdays schedule starts off with the Adult Costume Class and includes 4 In Hand, English and Western Riding, several Pleasure Driving Classes as well as Gaming classes, (Riding as well as Driving) and some things that are just “for fun”.
Sunday morning starts off with a simple Cowboy Church and then competition starts at 10am. We’ll start off with the Unique Hitch, and later in the day is the Kids Costume class which is always a crowd pleaser, as well as Farm/Draft Hitches and Log Skids. We try and offer a variety of classes on both days to showcase the Versatility of the Norwegian Fjord Horse.
If you have time in September, please plan on attending our show and the Libby Nordicfest celebration. If you can please stop by and say “hello”, I’ll be one of those that’s running around like a chicken with my head cut off!
