The Gallop Stallion Services Auction Gets Underway In Its 26th Annual Year!

The upcoming 2009 Ronald McDonald House Gallop - presented by Rhodes River Ranch & Northern Quest Casino; is gearing up for their next event Sunday, February 8, 2009. This upcoming year will mark the 26th year since the inception of the event. This past January, the Gallop continued its growth from a West Coast Event into an International Event. As one of the first in the Industry to add Internet live bidding, successful bids came in from all around the United States and Canada.

‘It was one of the worst winter snow storms to hit the Pacific Northwest in fifty-two years,’ the Spokane Newscasters boasted. Planes were grounded, roads looked like a ghost town, and several surrounding county and city residents were unable to get out of their driveways! January 27, 2008 was the date, the same day of Gallop’s 25th anniversary! So what was the outcome? Many came in from out of town days before the event, while some locals made their way to the casino. The remaining snowed in bidders followed suit with the rest of the nation calling in on our toll free phone lines to bid on stallions! With the switch board lit up for four hours, twelve operators answered calls, took bids, and waved their hands for the ringmen’s attention.

A nice surprise awaited those who attended the event. A silent auction that contained new halters; horse blankets; bridles; vacation packages; barn dry; spurs; chain saw; jewelry; art; gift baskets; western wall decor, tickets to the GU Charities Basketball Classic; Cabbala products; gift certificates to restaurant and western stores, were offered, and much more!

For all participating, non-service packages were auctioned off. These were packages that went up on the auction block with our stallion services lineup. There were GREAT opportunities for everyone participating, whether interested in the stallion services or not. Vacations to a five-star resort, including airline tickets, expensive custom jewelry, Limited Edition Art work, Pendleton Blanket, Horse Sculpture, a Dude Ranch Vacation, Round Trip Airline Tickets, and more. As the gavel came down at the close of the auction, the horse industry once again showed their hearts. With the continued support of the industry pulling together to help, Gallop proved to be another success, raising over $70,000!

The Ronald McDonald House, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, recognizes that when a child is ill or injured, there is nothing more comforting to that child than the presence of their family. The Ronald McDonald House provides temporary housing and other services to families seeking medical care for their critically ill or injured children. In addition to the House providing lodging, they help with transportation, laundry, food and beverages, E-mail access, educational materials, and access to recreational activities.

In 2007, 500 families were welcomed at the House providing them 7,000 nights of lodging. The average stay in 2007 was 16 nights. Over 50% of the guests in 2007 had a premature baby and had no idea they would need our services. Cancer has quickly become the second most common diagnosis of our children at 17%. Most families staying with us arrive with no suitcase or supplies for their stay. Families receive our services regardless of their ability to pay the $18 per night. Less then 50% of our guests were able to contribute something for their stay upon checkout in 2007. Since we are not supported by any “corporate” entity, the majority of our funds come in through private donations and fundraisers, you can understand the importance of Stallion Donors, Sponsors, and Bidders participating at the Ronald McDonald House Gallop event ... and how the joint efforts attribute to the success of our mission.
