Inland Northwest Chapter Chatter
WOW! 2007 is over and 2008 has already begun racing by. The Inland Northwest Paint Horse Club, a regional chapter of the American Paint Horse Association, is looking forward to the fabulous events we have planned this year, but first it is time to look back at the successes of our club and our individual members in 2007.
Club membership continues to increase due to the success of our events as well as our members. Several of our members achieved significant accomplishments in the APHA show pen this year, with the highlights being:
Sam & Deneice Fodge’s new stallion Mr Colt Fortyfive placed 3rd at the World Show and ended up 6th overall on the APHA Honor Roll for yearling halter stallions
Eunice Long’s mare Two Karat Imprint placed 5th at the World Show and ended up 2nd Solid Paint Bred Hunter Under Saddle and 9th Overall Solid Paint Bred show horse on APHA’s Honor Roll. This horse also ended up placing 3rd in the regional NWCC circuit in Solid Paint Bred Hunter Under Saddle.
Other NWCC award winners were: Tom & Leila Styer showing SR Zippin To Impress receiving Champion Amateur Solid Paint Bred Halter Stallion and 3rd Place Solid Paint Bred Weanling/Yearling Halter Stallion, Wildfires QT owned by Sam & Deneice Fodge was the Reserve Champion Weanling Halter Mare, Kelsey Harding riding By The Masters Hand was 3rd Place Novice Youth Western Pleasure, and our youngest active youth, Aaliyah Bains was Reserve Champion Leadline.
Of course, many more of our members participated in APHA shows throughout the Northwest earning points and high point or reserve high point honors. Given that the Northwest has some of the toughest horses in the country, this is a real testament to the quality of their horses and their ability to show them well - Congratulations to all of you!
We are also very proud of our members who participate in APHA’s PAC program, which gives recognition for Paints performing at open horse shows and other events. The largest PAC shows in the area are the WSH/NEZ shows, and many of our members did very well at these shows - again winning PAC points and high point or reserve high point honors. Highlights for the PAC program in our club include:
Darlene Beplate showing Barlnk Country Lily - 1st Place APHA PAC Honor Roll for yearling longeline
Kelsey Harding showing By The Masters Hand - 3rd Place Western Pleasure and 8th Place Showmanship on the APHA PAC Honor Roll
Shannon O’Dell and Shootin At Shadows - PAC Certificate of Recognition in Western Pleasure
The INPHC wants to congratulate not only these winners, but also our other members who showed hard and performed well in futurities, APHA shows, and PAC shows. We are proud of their achievements and their commitment to showing the American Paint Horse.
Not all of our members use their Paints in the show pen. We have many members who trail ride and are active in APHA’s Ride America program - like Brittany Pierson who has been on APHA sponsored trail rides, and Karen Kimball who has ridden many trails including the Bob Marshall Wilderness and the Middle Fork of the Salmon River into the Frank Church Wilderness.
The INPHC has a scholarship program for our active youth to help them with the costs of their continuing education after high school. Our 2006 recipient, TJ Anderson, is studying Physics and Math at the University of Idaho, and 2007 recipient Rachel Calkins is working towards an Associate of Applied Science in Equine Riding & Training at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming. These youth were great ambassadors for our club, and we are proud to be able to support them in their education and studies.
Which brings us to 2008...we will again be holding a schooling show this spring. Proceeds from this show go to promote our fall Paint-O-Rama as well as to fund our youth scholarship program. Our youth membership is growing with the success of our previous youth members, and we look forward to awarding a scholarship in 2008 to another deserving youth member. We are also looking into having a club trail ride. Our big event is our 4-judge Fall Spectacular Horse Show September 26th-28th at the Spokane Fairgrounds. This show has been growing the past 3 years, and we look to have even more growth this year with the addition of a half day on Friday allowing us to offer even more classes for youth and novice competitors. We will again host the Washington Bred weanling futurities, the PNPHC Stallion Preview futurities, and the NWSSA Stallion Service auction & futurities. In 2007, these futurities paid out over $31,000 at our show. Additionally, the INPHC will be introducing the NEW Northwest Breeders Futurity program. We already have stallions nominated, and this program is turning out to be a huge success.
We hope that you will join us in 2008. For more information on membership, youth scholarship, or club activities, please visit our website at www.inphc.com or contact Shannon O’Dell at 509-951-8053 or
