Youth of the Month: Laree Anderson

Laree Anderson is a senior at Bonners Ferry High School in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. She is a member of National Honor Society and a Varsity Cheerleader on the Wrestling squad. She plans to manage the wrestling team for the `98/'99 season. Laree has been active in Boundary County's 4-H program for 10 years, with a diverse selection of projects. It is within the County 4-H Horse program that she began to develop her equine skills. In 1997 she was selected 4-H's Family Fun Night Queen as well as receiving numerous year end awards within the horse program. They include top senior showman, top multiple horse project, a driving award and jumping award, as well as top western rider. Laree also received the horse programs senior sportsmanship award, an award voted on by her peers. Other 4-H accomplishments include her selection as the 1997 Boundary County Fair Queen and the Walter Irving Memorial award for Boundary County's outstanding senior 4-H participant. In 1997 Laree began public speaking within the 4-H program and was selected top senior demonstrator at the county and district level. She also had the opportunity to compete in Gooding, Idaho at the state level. Her demonstration, entitled Fabulous Fjords, is a topic she has grown to love. This past year Laree's public speaking took her to Caldwell, Idaho for the state contest. She placed second with her speech on prejudice in the show ring.

Laree and her family are members of the Pacific Northwest Fjord Promotional Group and show Fjords at the Libby Nordicfest Fjord Horse Show, an international breed show in Libby, Montana, the second weekend in September. Last September Laree received first place ribbons at Libby in English Pleasure and Bareback Equitation.

Laree is an active participant on her family's Fjord farm, Oscar's Round Mountain Fjords, near Naples, Idaho. She is currently training four colts as well as showing her gelding, Budd and mare, Sidoni. Her interests outside the show ring include trail riding, camping and pottery.
