Myler Bit Clinic: A Success!
Sunday, June 9, 1996
Sponsored by Horse & Habit, Inc.
Many horses in the Inland Northwest are now much happier in their bits! Ron Myler, the designer of these beautifully engineered bits, worked one-on-one with horses and riders to find the combination that encouraged the horses to work more comfortably and put on a better performance.
Myler bits were discovered by Nancy and Dana Jewell, owners of Horse & Habit, inc. when they visited the Myler booth at a retail market early this year. After spending much time discussing the bits and the philosophy behind their unique designs, they believed that these aesthetically beautiful bits were the bits of the future. Dana tested one of their D-ring bits on her Hunter gelding to find that he worked 100% better. She then tried one of the Myler Weymouth and bradoon combinations on the farm's English Pleasure stallion with the same results...she was convinced. Not only are these bits pleasing to the eye, but the Myler Company offers a 10 day trial period, and a lifetime guarantee.
In order to introduce the bits to Spokane, it was arranged for Mr. Myler to visit the area. Ron Myler, previously a reining/cutting horse trainer, became frustrated that the bits available were not giving him the results he desired and in the early 1980's began building training bits for his own use. When a trainer is consistently winning top ribbons, others soon want to learn his secret, so he began making bits to sell to others, a few at a time. By the mid 1980's Ron had a decision to make; continue to train or expand his bit company. 17 reining and cutting horses were sent to other barns and the Myler Bit Company was formally started.
During the few days prior to the clinic, Mr. Myler visited training stables and private farms, working personally, on request, with riders who knew they had bitting problems, but needed help finding the key to their horse. On Sunday, people from as far away as Moses Lake and Lewiston came to Paradise Prairie Stables to discuss Myler Bits. Some brought their horses and were amazed at the difference a well designed bit could make. Many Reining, Western Pleasure, Hunter-Jumper, Dressage, Saddleseat, as well as family trail horses, are now working happily in their Myler show and schooling bits.
