Wishing Star Gallop is soon approaching. Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 17th - 1:00pm at the Spokane Interstate Fairgrounds/Indoor Arena. We are proud to introduce the great line-up of Paint and Quarter Horse stallions being offered in the 1996 Gallop Auction!

GALLOP QUARTER HORSE STALLIONS:

Wishing Star is very excited to offer the horse industry some of the finest stallion services to be purchased in the world!

SCOTCH BAR TIME: Excited, honored and proud, Wishing Star offers (what may be a very rare opportunity to purchase) a service to one of the greats in the Quarter Horse Industry, "Scotch Bar Time." He has been the AQHA's #1 Leading Sire of Youth Performance Winners, Point-Earning Youth Performance Horses, and Incentive Fund money earners. In 1995 (once again) he was among the top two leading sires in the AQHA registry for the Amateur Division, Open Performance Earners, and Youth Performance and Halter Point Winners & Earners. He is the only AQHA stallion to appear on all 12 Leading Sires Lists - both in Halter and Performance. "Scotch Bar Time" is the sire of 145 Superior Performance Award get; 12 AQHA Champions, 3 Amateur AQHA Champions, 13 Youth AQHA Champions, 1 Youth Supreme Champion, 5 World Champions, 7 Reserve World Champions, and sire of Paint and Appaloosa World Champions. Owned by George Stauffer of Barneveld, Wisconsin, his 1997 breeding fee will be $3,000. Transported semen will be available to Paint and Quarter Horses. When you talk about the son of the great sire...THIS IS THE GREAT SIRE!

PEPPY BADGER CHEX: Back once again in our 1996 Gallop line-up is two-time AQHA World Champion - "Peppy Badger Chex." He was a World Champion Junior Reining Horse in 1989, 1992 World Champion Senior Working Cow Horse - Top 5, and gained an additional World Championship title as the 1993 Sr. Working Cow Horse. In addition to his second World Championship, "Peppy Badger Chex" was the Bronze Trophy winner of the 1993 NRHA Reno Spectacular in Reining and NRHA & PRHA Super Slide Bronze trophy winner! His offspring are proving what tremendous reining potential he produces! They have won the PRHA Superslide, top three were all "Peppy" offspring; another placed 11th at the Snaffle Bit Futurity, and a filly of his placed 15th out of 488 entries. Now one of the most sought after breeding stallions in the industry, for the past three breeding seasons, his book has been closed barely before Spring begins. He has been Wishing Star Gallop's highest selling Quarter Horse Stallion Service since his first donated breeding four years ago. Wishing Star is indebted to Jim & Sondra Wright and Pam Whittaker for once again supporting our cause and bringing some light into the lives of others less fortunate. "Peppy Badger Chex" will stand the 1997 breeding season in Yamhill, Oregon for a breeding fee of $2,000.

LEAN WITH ME: A champion of Champions! Shortly after being titled the 1993 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Reserve Champion, "Lean With Me" suffered a near fatal injury of a fractured pelvis that almost ended his career. With God's blessings, a great trainer (Bobby Avila) and the love and prayers of his owners and admirers, "Lean With Me" beat all the odds and came from a cripple to a champion making his mark in the AQHA Industry. In 1994 he returned to the show ring, competing in the Bruce Gilcrest Memorial Futurity winning the O.Q.H.A. Reining Championship. From there it was on to the AQHA World Show, where he earned his first "AQHA World Championship" in "Junior Working Cow Horse." He wasn't through winning. In 1995, he returned - once again - to win the O.Q.H.A. Reining Championship, earned an AQHA Superior in Reining, won the prestigious NRHA Derby, and returned to the AQHA World Show to gain another title as the "1995 AQHA World Champion Senior Reining Horse." Now retired, "Lean With Me" stands in Oregon. "He's accomplished so much, there's really nothing left for him to win," commented Bobby Avila. This two-time World Champion will stand at Bryant Ranch in Yamhill, Oregon for $2,000. Wishing Star is truly grateful to owners, Jon and Norma Sather of Manson, Washington, for giving a breeding to their unbelievable stallion, thus making "Dreams Come True" for Wishing Star children.

LENAS WRIGHT ON: We are privileged to have in the line-up this year, one of the leading AQHA Reining horses in the industry, "Lenas Wright On." This outstanding AQHA Superior Reining stallion has accomplished it all. In 1994, he won the National Reining Horse Association's Open Futurity Championship, bringing home a check for $100,000. He qualified for the AQHA World Show early on in 1995 in "Junior Reining Horse" and was a 1995 finalist at the NRHA 4-year-old Open Reining Reno Spectacular. From there, "Lenas Wright On" went on to Oklahoma City to compete in Junior Reining and was the 1995 AQHA Reserve World Champion Jr. Reining Horse. As for the future, he will compete in "Working Cow Horse" and some "Reining" events for 1996. Another GREAT stallion offered to help the children by owners Jim and Sondra Wright and daughter Pam Whittaker of Oregon. Sharing with you Wishing Star's mission, this month Gallop Coordinator, Barbara Turner, shares with you some wishes currently being achieved by the Wishing Star Foundation.

"Hi everyone! Being involved in the horse industry and with Wishing Star, many of you approach me with questions about Wishing Star, wishes and our children. Our wish kids are referred to us from lots of places and people. Neighbors, teachers, physicians, family, nurses, and friends all have referred children with life threatening illnesses to Wishing Star. Often the child's family knows the referral, but we get anonymous referrals too. When a child is referred, Wishing Star contacts the family to see if they are interested in a wish. In sharing, only a few of these "wishes,"' keep in mind that those of you who participate at this year's Gallop as a spectator, sponsor, booth exhibitor, stallion owner or committee member will help to make these wishes a reality. I've seen the loss of more "wish children" this past year, than ever in the eight years I've been with Wishing Star. My life was personally touched with the loss of a wish child that I'd known for the past six years. A child, whose family and him were involved with "Gallop" for six years. I remembered being involved with his wish. It was to see his Grandpa in California. He also wanted to go to "Great America" while there. It never crossed my mind (with any doubt) that he wouldn't be back each year to sing on stage with us. Four days before "Thanksgiving" I was called by the family to come to the hospital. By the time I arrived, I realized I wouldn't have the chance to tell him, "good-bye." During that same day, spending time with his family (and two other "wish family" parents) enriched my life and gave me new meaning to the words - strength, perseverance, life, love, and Wishing Star. Yes, Wishing Star. As time went by, I listened to the families as they talked about Wishing Star's Christmas program, their involvement in the Gallop, memories of their wishes....And I realized - beyond the obvious of what I already knew - the "real power" of Wishing Star's mission with these families. I thought I knew, but I wasn't even close. The last thing Mom said to me before I left the hospital was, "Thank everyone at Wishing Star for giving Donald his wish. He had so much fun; we all did. We'll have those lovely memories forever." The family asked if I'd speak at his funeral the day after Thanksgiving. When I got to the podium and turned around, my breath was taken away! It was standing room only, and people were still coming in. In the short period of time Donald was with us, this thirteen year-old boy touched the lives of so many people of all different ages.

Always proud to be a part of the Wishing Star Foundation, at that moment I felt "blessed." Blessed to be a small integral part of the Wishing Star Foundation, its mission and some of the children who allowed me the pleasure of getting to know them and their families along the way.

I've shared this personal experience with you because so many of you out there are a part of Wishing Star's success in accomplishing those "wishes" too. For many of these families, tragedy and adversity become an element of daily life. But with your support and contributions to Wishing Star, you are truly making a difference in the lives of others. I wanted you to know that, and how greatly it is appreciated.

We will all miss Donald at the Gallop this year. But he will be there with us in spirit and live in our hearts forever. Wishing Star will dedicate this year's 1996 Gallop in memory of Donald - whom we lost in November to Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy at the age of thirteen.

HOW CAN YOU HELP IN WISHING STAR'S MISSION?

That is a question we are asked by many people and there are a number of ways. One is financially. It is a constant battle to raise the money to get the Wishes done as quickly as possible. Another is to become a Wishing Star volunteer. Give some of your time. We have a number of people who volunteer through our office in Spokane and we can always use more. We also have chapters made up of volunteers in a number of communities where extra help is always needed. Those chapters serve the following areas:

1. Lewiston, ID / Clarkston, WA 2. Moscow, ID / Pullman, WA
3. Magic Valley / Twin Falls, ID 4. Weiser / Payette, ID
5. Coeur d'Alene, ID 6. Boise / Treasure Valley, ID
7. Tri-Cities, WA 8. Yakima, WA
9. Wenatchee, WA 10. Sandpoint, ID

If you are interested in volunteering in one of these areas or need more information, call us at 509-744-3411. Give the greatest gift: help a child's dream come true.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the Wishing Star Gallop Stallion Service Auction on Saturday, August 17th!

Sincerely, Barbara J.Turner
