Facility Spotlight: Jazztime Morgan Farm

Let's take a look at Jazztime Morgan Farm.

Jazztime Morgans is owned by Mike, Nancy & Dana Jewell. The farm is located in the Spokane Valley, one mile south off I-90 Exit 299 on Idaho Road. It rests on 14 acres which includes two barns with indoor stalls and paddocks, 19 box stalls plus four runs with loafing sheds, 90'x120' outdoor arena, 45' round pen and a 36'x60' indoor working area. Nancy said, "We added a barn in 1994 and opened the farm for boarding. We currently own 7 Registered Morgans and 20+ head, which include outside mares from a busy breeding season."

Nancy Jewell has been involved with the Morgan breed for 40 years; her show history extends over 22 years. Her daughter, Dana Jewell, has been in the show ring for 13 years. Mike Jewell enjoys the horses also, occasionally taking a trail ride plus helping with the breeding, repairs & maintenance on the farm.

Their first Morgan Jazztime Prefix was established in 1976, when the family moved from the Seattle area to the Spokane Valley. The Jewell family enjoy matching up Morgans with new Morgan owners. "We will help to locate Morgans for just about anyone. This is what we have done for many years." Nancy said, "It is fun and rewarding to watch the relationships between the Morgans and their new families build."

The majority of Morgans carrying the Jazztime Prefix bloodlines are owned by Amateurs, enjoyed on trails, shown in the show ring, and are top breeding stock throughout the Pacific Northwest. Jazztime Morgans are versatile and have competed in almost every division from Dressage to Reining.

Senior Stallion: Shiloh Bold Command, at 16 years, has retired from his successful show ring career in English Pleasure & Pleasure Driving. Junior Stallion: Jazztime King of Hearts was recently sold to Jim & Mary LaShell of R-Quest Morgans, Spokane Washington, but will continue to stand at Jazztime. Both stallions produce Morgans with excellent breeding & dispositions.

One of the Jewell's many Show Horses is: Jazztime Johnnie Walker, a competitive, black, 4 year old, Hunter/Western Pleasure gelding who is trained and shown by Daryl Hopson of Walla Walla, Washington. He was recently pinned Reserve Champion Jr. Western Pleasure Horse at the Key Classic Morgan show in Spanaway, Washington. His most recent show was the Farwest Regionals in Salem, Oregon.

Nancy says, "Thanks go to Jim and Mary LaShell for their friendship and hard work, because without their help we would not have our indoor barn. We moved the barn from Greenacres to the Spokane Valley and we did okay. Then, what we thought would take 3 months to put together, took 1 year. We put it together stick by stick, which was quite a job."

Mike, Nancy and Dana are also owners of the Horse & Habit tack store, which is located across from Ziggy's in the Spokane Valley, 16823 E. Sprague, Spokane. Nancy states, "The days just are not long enough. We do chores at the farm in the morning, and spend the necessary hours at the store, then we come home and do the chores once again as well as work with the horses. It's a very long day, but we enjoy the benefits, the people and the horses."

Jazztime Morgans can be located at 3001 N. Idaho Road, Liberty Lake, Washington, 99019. Visitors are always welcome, but please call first, 509-891-9060.
