New Western Horsemanship Video Features Paints

The American Paint Horse Association (APHA) has released its first educational video, Western Horsemanship. The objective of the 35 minutes instructional video is to help first-time Western Horsemanship exhibitors, judging team members and accomplished riders recognize good horsemanship and improve their performance.

Featuring world-class exhibitors and their Paint Horses, the new video includes performances by both youth and amateur riders. The riders were filmed at the 1995 APHA World Show held last July in Reno, Nevada.

Beginning with an introduction to Western Horsemanship class, the video guides the viewer through information that every competitor needs to know, including show preparation, rules, procedures and scoring. After reviewing basic elements of the class, the tape critiques riders completing two different patterns as well as rail work. The video concludes with practice classes that give the viewer an opportunity to score and place four different competitors in two classes.

Filmed by Sunrise Video of Glenpool, Oklahoma, and edited by Forward Communications of Irving, Texas, Western Horsemanship is the first of an educational video series to be produced by the APHA.

Western Horsemanship is available for $19.95 plus shipping and handling. To order a copy, contact the American Paint Horse Association at P.O. Box 961023, Fort Worth, Texas 76161 or call 817/439-3400 extension 261.
