Youth of the Month: Haley Berg
Haley Berg, a Junior at Kellogg High School, has been competing with her horse in speed events for several years. Haley rides a 9 year old AQHA mare she has trained herself. Haley began her 1995 Summer season by winning the 12-15 High Point Award at the Idaho State O-Mok-See, hosted by the Shoshone Rangers Saddle Club in Pinehurst on June 24th & 25th. In addition, Haley broke a State speed record in the event Half Eight.
Haley then traveled to Vernal, Utah where she competed at the National O-Mok-See with riders from as far away as Texas & Minnesota and was a royalty contestant as well. After four days of competition & judging, Berg was crowned Princess in the 12-15 age group. Contestants were judged on their riding ability, overall conduct, the apperance of themselves & their horse & personality. Haley was given a crown she will keep as well as a plaque & a Montana Silver belt buckle.
She will represent the National Saddle Club Association throughout the Northwest & will travel as far as Kansas during her 1995/1996 reign. Haley also came home with the ranking of 8th overall in her age group. Her team partner, Stephanie Croston of Kellogg was ranked 10th in the same age group.
She traveled to Helena, Montana over the Labor Day weekend to compete at the Montana State O-Mok-See. Haley is the daughter of Terry Parsons of Kingston & Wayne Berg of Kellogg. She is sponsored by Les Schwab Tire Center, Pard N' Me Western Wear & Carousel Action Wear
Congratulations Haley!
