Young people are a big priority at Sunwood Farms. Youths are given a show gelding while apprenticing to the Sunwood staff, learning how to train, show & manage their horses. Shirley says, "We consistently have top youth riders."

Sunwood Farms is the home of approximately 60+ head of a very unique selection of horses: Pure Polish Arabs, Straight Egyptian Arabs, Crabbet bred individals, pintos, 1/2 Arabians, National Show Horses & the very special blacks. Shirley's life-long love of black horses led her to the Mekeel Ranch in the late 1970s; since then she has used the blood of Port Bask to help them build the purity of black-bred Polish breeding horses.

Shirley's interest in horses began with the enthusiasm of her father Sam Kyllo & her purchase, at age 13, of a starving Arabian stallion who went on to win countless Championships, which began Sunwood Farm's evolution. She has been showing her stallions, mares & geldings for approximately 40 years. Shirley has won many top awards & State Championships throughout her carreer. Many horses from Sunwood Farms have gone on to be National Champions, Scottsdale Champions, etc. She travels the Arabian circuit throughout the Northwest & Canada during the show season. Shirley & Bill belong to many Horse Associations: Eastern Washington Arabian Horse Association, The Egyptian Pyramid Club, The Korona Society, Pure Egyptian Society & the International Arabian Horse Association among others.

Dr. Bill Bozarth has been the driving force behind the establishment of their breeding herd. Bill helps considerably with the horses; he gets involved with the breeding, maintenance, just about everything including helping with the Veterinarian work.

Shirley & Bill are currently remodeling the facility to include a new reproduction & Veterinary area with a lab & availability to transport cooled & frozen semen. Eventually, they hope for people to be able to bring in their stallions for collection of semen and training for the owner.

They are now accepting Sport horses, Andalucians, Warm Bloods & riders for Dressage training or eventing in Classical Equitation with Antonia McDole, along with Dressage & Hunt Seat, Classical Equitation & Sport horse & riders, Arabian Horse Division, under the guidance of Shirley Tesdal, Betty Baker & Beth Berkland.

Sunwood Farms hopes that you will feel free to contact them at anytime for their new sales list or information on the other services they offer. They love to show their horses, but they do ask that you please call for an appointment; they wouldn't want to miss you!
