Another Successful Year
~ Wishing Star Gallop 2003 ~

The trade-show was a shopper's delight! Over thirty booths displayed tack, silver, feed products, horse crafts, custom show ring clothes, breed associations, special event organizations, Nutrena feeds, make-up for show participants, jewelry, chaps, buckles, beautiful limited edition prints and original art paintings, metal sculptures, tail wraps, slinkies, horse health supplies, custom leather work and saddles, horse T-shirts, sweatshirts, figurines, LMF Feeds, livestock panels, western stores, Becker Buick GMC's, Huber Trailer Sales, Horse Previews Magazine, galvanized fence products, Atlas stall pellet, training and boarding facilities, Super Sweats, and Professional Choice products. The trade show also included one of Gallop's biggest Sponsor's, Spokane's best-known Country Western Station, Cat Country 94FM, and the Gallop Titled Sponsor, Rhodes River Ranch. KDRK held a live remote from their booth, while their disc Jockey - Jim Diamond commentated on stage with Gallop Coordinator Barbara Turner.

The Spokane County Fair & Expo Center's indoor arena was transformed into a breathtaking sight! Flower arrangements by "Wildflowers Florist" simulated a fireworks display bursting from the drapeline with starbursts dropping from the stage to the floor using yellow carnations and lillies. Floral bouquets also lined the backdrop.Thank you to sponsors, Ray, Judy, and Anna Apfelbaum. The stage was decorated with eight and five point gold stars, and twinkling footlights brought the stage alive. In the center of the staging area, chandeliers hung high above the arena with a five-pointed star twinkling bright above the audience.

Two ten foot screen each side of the stage gave the audience the opportunity to see live action in the arena. Three thirty-foot towers held the spotlights that highlighted each stallion. Live music played throughout the event, the Quartet "Deep Roots," kicked off the opening of Gallop 2003. Commentators were dressed in tuxes or glittering diamond gowns as the stallions pranced through the drawn back sheer drapes and made their entrances.

Cat Country 94FM donated their "Star" Guitar. What an opportunity for a collector's item! The Guitar had been autographed by many of the best Country Artists such as: Brooks and Dunn, Rascal Flatts, and Kenny Chesney. As the gavel went down, the Guitar sold for $750 to Jean Rhodes of Rhodes River Ranch in Arlington, WA. Vivian, from The Tack Trunk donated an "English Saddle Package". This package included a beautiful all-purpose saddle with all the fittings, including bridle, and saddle pad. Activity ran high with interest as the bidding ended at $550 with Duns N Roses of Rathdrum, ID, purchasing it. There were active hands and heads nodding when two round trip airline tickets for two, were brought up for auction. The Southwest Airline tickets were valid for travel through 2004 with no exceptions. They sold to Tom Norris of Hayden Lake, Idaho for $625. Later in the evening another set of tickets were auctioned, this time donated by American West, they sold for $775 to Rhodes River Ranch of Arlington, Washington.

Nancy and Dana Jewel, owners of Horse & Habit in Greenacres, Washington, donated a "Halter Package" to help childrens' dreams come true. The package contained a beautiful Big Horn brand dark oil leather and silver show halter and matching lead. Also, a Kensington brand show tote, Xtreme Brand equine Revitalizing Shampoo, Moisturizing Conditioner, and Xtreme Sheen Hair Polish. To complete this halter package, Super Sweats added their trademark working neck sweat, 5-inch working throatlatch sweat, a slinky, and Super Sweat Show Ready Conditioner. The winning bidder was Duns N Roses of Rathdrum, Idaho purchasing it for $500. New to the auction this year was a very special print by artist, Dave Govedare, titled, "Grandfather Sets Loose the Ponies." Dave was at the event to autograph the print and watched the presentation. Dave's work is very well known, with the most notable being the running sculptured at Vantage Point Hill off Interstate 90. The print of that same sculpture at Vantage sold to Scott Norris of Spokane, Washington for $400. Wishing Star thanks Dave Govedare, Southwest Airlines, American West, The Tack Trunk, Horse & Habit, Super Sweats, Walt's Fencing, and Cat Country 94FM. Your efforts and support will bring a smile to a child's face!

The 2003 line-up of stallions being offered in the sale this year was very impressive! Stallion services were offered from around the United States. Many were World, National, Congress, Regional, and International Champions. What a delight to see the finest stallions in the World! Stalls were decorated like stallion row at the World Shows. The Stallion Preview Parade was exciting, as always. Along with the spotlights, videos on the big screens, live music and commentating, it was thrilling to see the finest stallions offering services in today's market!

Several stallion services sold for over their normal standing fees. Many sold for their normal standing fees. Naturally the children of Wishing Star were the incentive for many bidders.
