This is a work of fiction based upon the experiences of the author and the horses she has known. It tells of the adventures of Heather Richardson, a 16 year old girl who buys Frosty, a gray, registered Morgan mare at auction for $800. Her favorite horse, Blackjack, develops a mysterious ailment which causes her to fret throughout the book, but also allows her the time to ride Frosty.

The timeframe is school year at its end and fast approaching summer. Heather shares her adventures with Laura, her best friend, and other teenage girls interested in horses. Riding, grooming, worming, cleanup, lunging, tack, training, retraining, showing, trail riding, and the tribulations of encounters with at least three veterinarians, Dr. Reilly, Dr. Hutchinson, and Dr. Carren, are thoughtfully described in this book for the teenage girl who is compellingly interested in horses.
