PAINT SPOTS November 2000
by Jeri Stone"NOVEMBER - 2000" The 2000 Paint Horse Show Season has come to an end here in the Northwest. I hope to have the Year End Award Winners from the different clubs in future. The 30th. Annual APHA National Convention held in Seattle, WA in October can be described in one word - FANTASTIC!!! Seattle put on its best the first week in October with sunshine, blue skies warm weather and made all visitors feel welcome. Each of the tours and functions were not only well attended but were first class and enjoyed by all. I think the highlight of the pre convention was the Reception and Chris Cox Horsemanship Seminar hosted by KGF NorthStar Equestrian Center in Kirkland, WA owned by Kevin & Cheryl Fortun. KGF NorthStar went all out with a Margaretta band, a catered fiesta and wonderful hospitality. Though there were many rules voted on and a lot of work completed. Two of the several rules that were the approved were the shipping of frozen semen and the age for Junior Horses will now be five years and under. A full list of rule changes and a convention report will be under separate cover and in the Paint Horse Journal or from your APHA National Directors. We want to wish a speedy recovery to Kim Perkins - Kim experienced a cardiac episode and was hospitalized after a horse show in Caldwell, ID and Don Hill who recently has surgery on his neck. Congratulations to Barthel Paint Horses of Blackfoot, ID on earning the Open APHA Champion with their seven-year-old Sorrel Overo mare, Miss Lacey Bonanza by Mr Fancy Bonanza. Congratulations to Dustin Laird of Pleasant Hill, OR on his Youth APHA Championship with his eight-year-old Paint mare, Come Along With Me, by Racketeers Dandy. Congratulations to Jim and Jane Cress on the APHA Championship of their 1995 Sorrel Overo stallion, Apollo Thirteen by Sonnys Apollo. Also congratulations to Lisa Stone of Freeland, WA and her very versatile APHA gelding, Freddie Mac Flash, who have earned their Superior in Youth Hunter Under Saddle, Youth Trail and Youth Showmanship and Lisa and "Freddie" have also been awarded their Youth Versatility - all in only seven months! Congratulations to Michele Simmelink-Rask and her APHA mare, Barlnk Rumor Hasit, on earning their APHA Amateur Versatility Performance Championship at the Zone One Show in August.
