Youth of the Month: Sissy Crane

Sissy Crane started showing when she was only 6 years old. She grew up with horses around her and now at the age of 14 she has her own black 1/2 Arabian gelding that she shows in class "A" and open shows around the region.

Sissy, the daughter of Steve and Karen Crane of Sagle, Idaho, goes to school at Sandpoint Middle School. A straight "A" student, she hopes to attend Gonzaga University to major in Equine Journalism. Already, Sissy has had experience in managing and writing a newsletter for her club, the "Emerald Empire Arabian Horse Club" in Sandpoint. She is actively involved in the Jr. Club and has been on the club's judging team for 3 years, competing at the U.S. National Arabian Horse Shows. Her sister, Samantha Bell, won the National Arabian Individual High Point Judging contest in 1990 and Sissy hopes to do the same.

Sissy's horse Kasada was a birthday present for her when she was 11 years old. Sissy and her mom had previously looked at Kasada in an Arabian horse magazine and her mom called for a video of him. They watched the video over and over but Sissy never expected she would ever really own him. Now Sissy and Kasada have become a team and show in everything from Western Riding to Show Hack. In 1993, their first year of showing together, they received IAHA's Non-Sanctioned Youth Achievement top-ten Award.

This summer Sissy and Kasada, are planning to attend the U.S. Youth Arabian National Championship held in Oklahoma City. They plan to compete in Show Hack, Hunter Pleasure and Ladies Sidesaddle.
