The Versatile Norwegian Fjord Horse

What breed of horse can entertain the grandkids, take you for a ride in rugged mountains, allow you to enter a horse show like you did in 4-H, and satisfy your desire to drive a multi-horse hitch like your dad did in the 1930’s? That’s a Norwegian Fjord and that is why we bought Fjords in 2002.

Fjords caught our attention when we saw they were used for mountain riding at Stehekin on Lake Chelan. We decided that if they were calm enough for tourists, we could relive our long past teen years safely with Fjords.

Fjords are still somewhat rare in the U.S. but there are many ways to learn about them. The Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry has an excellent website, www.nfhr.com

Annually a Fjord horse show is held in Libby, Montana. This year’s show is September 9-11, 2005.

RFD-TV will be occasionally airing the new 23 minute video “The Versatile Norwegian Fjord Horse”. That video can be purchased in DVD or VHS format from NFHR, 1203 Appian Dr, Webster, NY 14580-9129. The price is $15.
