Do Not Miss the Twenty-First
WISHING STAR GALLOP
Making "Special" Childrens' Dreams A Reality

by Barbara Turner - Gallop Coordinator

With quite impressive show records, this year's Gallop has 45 stallions participating from Washington, Texas, California, Michigan, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Wyoming, Oregon, Kansas, and Idaho. Stallion breeding fees range from $500 to $4,500 per service. This year's event has a total of one National Champion, fourteen World Champions (nine are two-time World Champions, and one other that is a six-time World Champion). Additionally, we have seven Reserve World Champions, one #1 Leading Performance APHA sire, two APHA Champions, one APHA Versatility Award Winner, one #2 Lifetime APHA Performance Earning Stallion, eighteen on the "Top Ten Leading Sires List" of their breed registry, twelve AQHA Congress Winners, two Reserve AQHA Congress Winner, two NRHA Derby Champions, three NRCHA World Champions, two NRHA World Champions, Thirty Superior Stallions (one holds eleven Superiors, another holds five Superiors), and twenty-seven World Qualifying Stallion's (several being multiple qualifiers).
In last months article of Horse Previews a very special stallion in our sale was left off the lineup list of the Paint Horse Stallions by accident. We would like to highlight this stallion for your inspection at this time. PAINT HORSE STALLION, COUNT FLEET. Wishing Star had been notified in the earlier part of this year, that for possibly the last time, Painted Pines Ranch would proudly offers a breeding to their APHA Champion stallion, "Count Fleet". His APHA Championship was earned in one season, accumulating 28 points in Halter; 15 points in Western Pleasure; an ROM in Western Pleasure; and additional points earned in Hunter Hack; Hunter Under Saddle; Working Hunter and Western Riding. He has 11 Grand and Reserve Halter Championships; was the OSPHCC Hi-Point Aged Halter Stallion; MSPHC's Hi-Point two-year-old Halter Stallion; and Reserve Hi-Point Aged Halter Stallion for NWCC. He attended the Zone 1 Show, where he was the Hi-Point Senior Western Riding Horse. A title earned after being shown in this event only 4 times, beating the current World Champion Western Riding Horse! In addition to these titles, Count Fleet was the OPHC Reserve Hi-Point Jumping Champion, and NWCC's Reserve Western Riding Champion. As his show record indicates, Count Fleet is world-class breed with the versatility to do both Halter and Performance. He is sired by Mr. Norfleet, four time National Champion, and APHA leading Sire. His dam Lita Be Bold is by Supreme and National Champion Bold Chick, out of a National Champion broodmare, Lucky Lita by the great Sonny Go Lucky. Count Fleet is nominated for the Oregon Paint Horse Breeders Triple Crown, and Tri Star Futurities, siring APHA point earning offspring. He is producing 80% Duns, Buckskins, Grullas and Blacks. He presently stands for $700.00 - Transported Semen is "Not" Available. Mare care will go to Painted Pines Ranch. Breed of mare is to be a registered Quarter Horse, Paint, or Thoroughbred. For additional breeding information you can email: paintedp@povn.com, or www.pond.net/~mjh/count.htm. For the past eight years, Count Fleet and his owners Jay and Danni Peterson have supported the Gallop. They have raised countless dollars towards the mission of wishes for children. As much as they have felt apart of this organization, they will forever remain Wishing Star Family to all of here. Thank you Jay and Danni!
Fifty percent of our stallions in the line-up will be represented by offspring or there at the Gallop themselves, live under the spotlights at 2 pm. The balance will be viewed on ten-foot screens in a separate preview parade to kick off at 1 pm. Be sure to visit with these stallions and their owners - who will be located around the grounds and at their stalls. This is a time when you can do some homework on the mare care facilities, costs, and breeding procedures of stallions and ranches that are on your list. It also gives you an opportunity to take a good look at these stallions close up. If you are looking at transported semen, be sure to contact those stallion owners prior to the event and find out what your transport costs will be. In addition, check on what their "Live Foal Guarantee" consists of.
Our commercial trade show opens to the public at 1pm and runs throughout the event. Take this opportunity to shop through the day and evening and visit with several of our trade shows exhibitors. We are kicking off this year's opening ceremony with The Carol Lee Dancers. They have been performing for the Spokane community since 1973. They are 30 strong, talented teenagers who love to perform in the art of dance. Their talent was acknowledged in tap, jazz, and ballet, recently having won awards for "best choreography" and "overall high scores" in this year's season of competition. They consist of red, white, and blue casts ranging in age from 12-18, and have toured throughout the United States. Most recently, they traveled to Washington D.C. where they were privileged - in the honor - to place the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Their love for dance, and performing, shines through many hours of class instruction and rehearsals for one purpose, and that is to entertain for you! Sit back and enjoy this talented young group as they perform Gallop's Opening Ceremony.
Be prepared to bring the camera as Dale Offermann returns to our Gallop event performing the finale of the Opening Ceremony with his rare Nokota Stallion Chief, back by popular demand. Wishing Star and The Rockin' Bar H Nokota Horses present Chief, a rare Nokota stallion known as the Ambassador of the Nokota Horse breed. Nokota horses are a breed that came from the descendents of war and buffalo horses seized from Sitting Bull and his tribe in the late 1800's. The Nokota qualities will enhance other breeds with their keen intelligence and calm, curious disposition. They are large boned with thick hoof walls, rarely needing to be shod. Nokotas make excellent barrel and pole racing horses. These Indian horses are better balanced on their hindquarters than most breeds allowing them an uncanny jumping ability. They have unexpected strength and endurance for their size making them ideal mountain and trail horses. Nokotas exhibit the smooth "Indian shuffle", a gait desired by many. Grays and black are the most common Nokota colors. The Nokota is the last remaining strain of the northern prairie horse, and the last known strain of Native American war and buffalo horses. This distinct type of horse once ran wild in the Little Missouri Badlands, located in southwestern North Dakota. In 1991, the Nokota Horse became a registered breed. Many still marvel at what the Indians could accomplish with these horses. Never stabled, washed, curried, shod, doctored or fed, they starved through the winter, but when the grass came in, they filled out with ears up and eyes brightened, ready for whatever their master required. Adversity brought forth theses outstanding inheritable characteristics sought after by many. Dale and Holly Offermann are preservation breeders and trainers of Nokota Horses. They became involved with this rare breed of horse in 1990 after purchasing three of them at an auction. After moving to Arlington, Washington in 1991, the Rockin' Bar H became the first Nokota Horse breeders in the western United States. They have ten Nokota horses including two stallions and five breeding mares. To help promote the Nokota horse, Dale and Chief began doing liberty and freestyle performances. They perform several shows a year and have had many articles written about them. Stop by Chiefs stall to see up close this rare and magnification horse, or visit with Dale & Holly Offermann of Rockin' Bar H Nokota Horses at their booth located in the Trade Show. While you are there, ask Dale to autograph your Gallop souvenir program. Do not miss this unforgettable surprise spectacular as Dale performs the Gallop's Opening Ceremony Finale!
2003 brings together the "Children" and the "Horse Industry" in a beautiful production number. This presentation will be performed after The Carol Lee Dancers and right before Dale Offermann's performance. The stage will be filled with special effects and area talent, and you will have a chance to meet some of our Wishing Star children. Actress/singer Valerie Stichweh will once again return to the Gallop Stage to perform. She will sing and perform with our "Ambassador of Good Will" for Gallop 2003. Having Valerie on our stage is an honor. She is a charismatic, uniquely dynamic vocalist. She delivers a great song list of Adult Contemporary, Country, Classic Rock, and Motown to Christian Music. With her wide variety and versatility of style and range, Valerie has opened for national acts such as Big House, Freddie Fender, Doug Supernaw, and Sherrie Austin. Valerie was the winner of the 96 Frog FM, and Jimmy Dean Regional Talent Contest. She was also selected to sing on TNN's Charlie Daniel's Talent Roundup. She has done studio work for V.U. Music, associated with NBC, ABC, and CBS. Valerie has been the featured act at Silverwood Theme Park, and has performed at local venues such as the West Coast Hotels, West Coast Grand Hotels, Pig Out In The Park, and the Fourth of July festival in River Front Park. Maybe her voice will sound familiar to you as she performs the National Anthem for the Spokane Indians. Many of you remember her from last year's appearance when she brought the house down with Gallop's military production number of "God Bless America." Her love of children and singing is a winning combination and Wishing Star is honored to have her back to appear at Gallop. Nothing should be missed at this event, but these production numbers are a definite must see!
Do not miss the opportunity to breed to some of the worlds finest! Mail, phone, and Internet bids will be accepted until 6:00 pm, August 15th, the night before the sale. For phone in bids the day of the sale - August 16th, our phone number at the Fairgrounds office is 509/477-1432. Phone in bidding will be accepted "only" until 12:00pm the day of the event.
If you missed the opportunity to buy a Big "D" collector's blanket, now is the time to start saving. We are honored that Big "D" has chosen to support our foundation and Gallop. Limited Edition Blankets will once again be auctioned off at the event. Big "D" does not offer this anywhere else in the United States. Here in the Northwest and around the United States, those who own a blanket from previous years are very fortunate, as they have become sought-after collector items. Being non-stocked blankets, this is the thirteenth year these collector blankets have been offered. This year's limited edition blanket will feature a custom design by artist Tod Locke. The 2003 design brings forth one of the most dramatic designs ever created. Because of the turmoil of 9/11 and the most recent gulf war, the blanket is the Gallop's tribute to America's freedom. Looking at the blanket you will see a beautiful artistic horse head resembling the American flag blowing in the wind. In the bright embroidered colors of red, white, and blue, Wishing Star's logo pulls together a very artist double appearance as it sets the ears of the horse, yet depicts Wishing Star's symbolic familiarity - our flying dove holding the star within it's mouth. Underneath is embroidered, "Freedom, the spirit of America" Wishing Star Gallop. The bottom back corner of the blanket will have Wishing Star Gallop's logo. Below the logo it will read, "Limited Edition Collector's Blanket, donated by Big "D" Products - One of two - 2003". Careful detail has gone into each blanket. In their desire to grant wishes for our children, artist Tod Locke and Glenn Drake, of Big "D" Blankets, have created a design that is unique each year. The retail value of each blanket is nearly $1,000. After seeing them at the Gallop, you will agree this years blanket is one of the most creative ever offered.
We also have several "non stallion service" auctioned items that we are very excited to offer. Are you a collector of items that are of rare opportunities? Cat Country 94 has donated a "Star Guitar" for Wishing Star Gallop. This "Gibson Epiphone Guitar" will be auctioned off during the event and on display in the "Cat Country 94" booth at the trade show. The "Star Guitar" has been autographed by some of country music's biggest stars, including: Brooks and Dunn, Rascal Flats, Kenny Chesney, and others. Thank you Cat Country!
Are you looking for brand new tack? Is English your forte? The Tack Trunk has once again graciously donated a saddle package to Wishing Star Gallop. This exciting package will include an Xtra Close Contact English saddle featuring a 16 1/2-inch seat with recessed stirrup bars. The saddle is made of quality leather, chestnut in color, and has contour knee rolls. In addition to the saddle, this package will include a 48-inch girth, Troy leathers, 4 1/2-inch stirrups, a Korsteel Snaffle Bit, Crump English bridle, and a plaid all-purpose saddle pad. To top the package off, a stuffed plush noted horse ... "Spirit," stallion of the Cimarron will be enclosed with the merchandise. Thank you Tack Trunk, for helping to make dreams come true!
Thinking about going to the APHA, ApHC, AQHA World Show, Arabian US Nationals, Scottsdale, or maybe a non-horsy event like Disney World in Florida? Here is an opportunity ... Southwest Airlines has donated two round trip tickets - anywhere in the U.S. These tickets are valid for travel through 2004 with no exceptions.
For all you Halter, or Lunge Line enthusiasts, Horse & Habit Inc. of Greenacres, WA, has donated a beautiful Big Horn brand dark oil leather and silver show halter. It has an adjustable noseband and dual side silver buckles to insure a proper fit. This standard horse sized halter is very elegant and comes with a matching dark oil leather lead. Along with the halter will be a Kensington brand show tote. This stylish tote is made of versatile PVC coated polyester all-weather fabric. A must have for all occasions. In addition to the halter, lead, and tote, Xtreme Brand equine Revitalizing Shampoo, Moisturizing Conditioner, and Xtreme Sheen Hair Polish will be included in this halter package. All three of these products come in large 22 fluid ounce easy grip bottle. They are highly concentrated DEA-free products with sunscreen included to protect from harmful UV rays while producing a natural sheen without attracting dust. To complete this Halter package Super Sweats will be adding their trademark working neck sweat, 5 inch working throatlatch sweat, a sleazy, and Super Sweat Show Ready Conditioner.
Wishing Star is indebted to all the above donors, along with our sponsors and stallion donors, in their compassion to help make wishes come true! Wishing Star is pleased to introduce, through Horse Previews, our Wishing Star Gallop Ambassador of Good Will for 2003, Eric. He is looking forward to seeing all of you at this year's event. Eric is a nine-year-old who has life-threatening Type 1 Diabetes. His wish is to go to Disney World. It will be only weeks after the Gallop event (August 26th), when Wishing Star sees Eric and his family off at the airport, and his dream becomes a reality! Be sure to give him a warm round of applause as he enters the arena for a production number, which highlights this very special young man! Wishing Star thanks, Horse Previews Magazine for graciously letting us better educate the public on our auction and its foundation. Calls have come in from everywhere. We are grateful to Horse Previews editor Helen, and staff, for the opportunity they have provided us. When at Gallop, stop by the Horse Previews booth in the Trade Show and visit with Helen and the rest of the staff!
I hope to see you all at the Gallop Stallion Service Auction on Saturday, August 16th to help support these children in a "Fun"-raising event. See you all there!
