The Oregon Trail Appaloosa Club
Hermiston, Oregon

On September 8, beginning at 9 am, we will be sponsoring our Futurity and Silent Stallion Auction. This event is always the biggest for us and we always want to have a lot interest in the Stallion Auction. We have several stallions lined for this event as of this date, but we always appreciate new breeders onto the list. Our auction does not pertain to Appaloosa stallions only, but we also encourage the owners of any breeds to participate in the donations of their stallions.

As most of you know, the stallion auction sponsored by a club is most beneficial to everyone associated or interested in it. The stallion owners get free advertising and the bidders get a breeding at a less cost than normal and a nice foal the following year. Of course, the bidding of a certain stallion may be more than expected. The club, most certainly, gets to perform the major part of the whole aspect with the monies to go into the club and a futurity with many beautiful foals to be shown.

The breedings are for the year 2003, and the offspring will be in the futurity in 2004. The stallion owner has the right to accept or refuse any mare and the fees are to be returned to the payer. The fees are directly paid into the club and total amount due by the end of December, 2002.

It is always interesting and a learning experience for any horse owner pertaining to the color of their Appaloosa foals.

The color of an Appaloosa is defined as sufficient divergent white and contrasting coat color strategically located so as to easily identify the animal as an Appaloosa from 15 feet. A screening committee will be on hand and their decision is a final one.

If anyone is interested in submitting their stallion for the year 2003, please contact Sue Jankunis at 541-934-2032 or email her at sjankuni@highdesertnet.com, or 541-567-3076; primrose@eoni.com. We also encourage pictures to be sent to us so we may use them in our advertising of the stallions.

We have two classes for the futurity pertaining to the new foals to be shown: one with the color and one without the color. There are other classes also -- halter classes, trail class, and riding classes for all breeds. We certainly have a lot fun and hope everyone will participate if they can.
