HOT NEWS FROM THE APPALOOSA HORSE CLUB: Appaloosas Heat Up The Track At Alameda County Fair

Moscow, ID - July 17, 2000 - During the first half of this July, seven races took place at the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton, Calif. and seven Appaloosas entered the winners circle while several others placed in the top ten.

Appaloosa Claiming for Three-Year-Olds and Up took place on July 2, 2000. The 4 1/2 furlong race had a winning time of :53.40, a total purse of $3,900, and a claiming price of $2,500.

First Place: CROWN O'LITES, a nine-year-old gray gelding, won by a neck. Sire: SHANEKITE (JC): Dam: DAY LITES DELIGHT; Owner: Christine Harrell of Fresno, Calif.; Trainer: Danny and Linda Harrell; Jockey: Danny Boag; Earned: $1,975.

Second Place: K-JAC-G, a ten-year-old black gelding, placed by one and three quarter lengths. Sire: GENEO JJ; Dam: RIGHT ON MAUD (JC); Owner: Bill Cipponeri of Stockton, Calif.; Trainer: Susan Weston; Jockey: Ross Allerdyce; Earned: $750.

Third Place: RAISED RIGHT, a six-year-old chestnut gelding, placed by a head. Sire: RAISED SOCIALLY (JC); Dam: BRENT'S SONG; Owner: Jimmy Pettis of Stockton Calif.; Trainer: Ray Thomas; Jockey: Scott Stevens; Earned: $470.

Other Appaloosas Placing: SURE MILLION - 4th; KG JIM DANDY - 5th; RIVER ROAD - 6th; MILE A MINUTE - 7th; ROB THE IRISH - 8th.

Pleasanton Appaloosa Handicap occured on July 2, 2000. The 5 furlong race had a winning time of :58.00 and a total purse of $12,100.

First Place: SHORT SALE, a four-year-old bay gelding, won by three fourths of a length. Sire: GENEO JJ; Dam: SHORT STORIES (JC); Owner: Edward C. Allred of Los Alamitos, Calif.; Trainer: Don Collins; Jockey: Russell Baze; Earned: $6,900.

Second Place: LOOPHOLE, an eight-year-old chestnut gelding, placed by five lengths. Sire: RIGHT OF WAY; Dam: LUCKY SKIMP (JC); Owner: Tri-County Grading and Paving of Clovis, Calif.; Trainer: Peggie Hanford; Jockey: Manuel Ortiz, Jr.; Earned: $2,100.

Third Place: BUBBLEYBLURR, an eight-year-old chestnut mare, placed by a nose. Sire: MURRTHEBLURR (JC); Dam: TINY BUBBLES; Owner: Ken Arnold of Stockton, Calif.; Trainer: Danny and Linda Harroll; Jockey: Kevin Radke; Earned: $1,300.

Other Appaloosas Placing: ALWAYS HOMER - 4th; SERENELY - 5th; BEACHIE - 6th; HALF J.J. - 7th; SAY HEY COWBOY - 8th.

Mixed Claiming for Fillies and Mares Three-Year-Olds and Up took place on July 2, 2000. The 870 yard race had a winning time of :46.02, a total purse of $5,690, and a claiming price of $5,000.

First Place: APRIL THIRTY FIRST, a five-year-old bay mare, won by seven and three quarter lengths. Sire: GENEO JJ; Dam: APRIL FORTY FIRST (JC); Owner: George Speckman of Holt, Calif.; Trainer: John Martin; Jockey: Dennis Carr; Earned: $3,025. Other Appaloosas Placing: CLASSY VAL - 4th and CATCHER IN THE FLY - 6th.

Appaloosa Claiming for Three-Year-Olds and Up occured on July 7, 2000. The 4 furlong race had a winning time of :46.80, a total purse of $4,400, and a claiming price of $3,200.

First Place: J.J. BABY, a five-year-old chestnut mare, won by 2 lengths. Sire: GENEO JJ; Dam: BABY KINS (AQ); Owner: Michael T. Knott of Clovis, Calif.; Trainer: Jelina Pike; Jockey: Scott Stevens; Earned: $2,250.

Second Place: SK'S HE'S A SCOUT, a five-year-old chestnut gelding, placed by a half of a length. Sire: CONVOY SCOUT (JC); Dam: SHE'S A CHARGER; Owner: John T. Labrum of Evanston, Wyo.; Trainer: Gary Greiner; Jockey: Keith Rough; Earned: $850.

California Appaloosa Cal-Bred Derby took place on July 8, 2000. The 4 1/2 furlong race had a winning time of :52.80 and a total purse of $13,100.

First Place: DAVIS, a three-year-old bay gelding, won by a half of a length. Sire: CANDYMAN BEE (JC); Dam: GENA LUCK; Owner: Edward C. Allred of Los Alamitos, Calif.; Trainer: Don Collins; Jockey: Danny Boag; Earned: $7,900.

Second Place: FOUR FORTY FIRST, a three-year-old chestnut gelding, placed by three lengths. Sire: GENEO JJ; Dam: APRIL FORTY FIRST (JC); Owner: Ralph Trimm and Ward Connerly of Rocklin, Calif.; Trainer: Don Collins; Jockey: Russell Baze; Earned: $2,100.

Sire: GRAND RULER (JC); Dam: TAKES THE CAKE; Owner: James Giannone of Lodi, Calif.; Trainer: Melody Truitt; Jockey: Myra Truitt; Earned: $2,525.

Second Place: RIVER WALK, a three-year-old dark bay filly, placed by one and three quarter lengths. Sire: ULAN (JC); Dam: BLUE POPPY; Owner: William L. Fausett of Monahans, TX; Trainer: Jerry Jackson; Jockey: Bryan Campbell; Earned: $950.

Third Place: HE CAN, a four-year-old chestnut gelding, placed by two and a quarter lengths. Sire: GENEO JJ; Dam: CANTHE (JC); Owner: Daniel and Patricia Castronova of West Hills, Calif.; Trainer: Brett H. Layne; Jockey: Keith Rough; Earned: $590.
