Inland Northwest Dressage Association: 10TH ANNUAL HORSE SHOW

The timeless beauty of a horse in motion, muscles rippling, coat shining as it responds precisely to its rider's commands... this is dressage, a 500 year old art form to be demonstrated in Spokane, July 8-9, 2000.

Between 9am and 5pm each day, riders will compete in the 10th annual Inland Northwest Dressage Association Horse Show. Each horse and rider pair will perform a complex series of standardized movements for one of two internationally recognized judges, either Loris Henry, AHSA "S", of Fresno, CA or Dawn Ruthven, AHSA "S", of Saanichton, BC. A highlight of the two one day shows is always the Musical Freestyle, where the test is ridden and timed perfectly to music.

A horse is judged not only on the performance of each movement, but also the freedom and regularity of its gaits, its desire and willingness to move forward, and its submission to and harmony with the rider. Riders are judged on their ability to direct the horse while maintaining correct position and using the correct aids (cues). This encourages the horse to perform to its highest ability and create the perfect picture of strength, grace and beauty.

Riders will come from all over the Northwest to compete in these two one day shows. Dressage is a thriving sport, with professionals and amateurs alike readying their horses for this show. Ribbons and prizes are given to the high scoring amateur as well as the high scoring professional in each class. Special awards will be presented to the overall high point rider in three separate divisions, as well as high scoring INDA member, rider over 50, and Junior/Young rider.

Visitors are encouraged to attend without charge. There will be food and horse-related concessions on the show grounds during the event.
