Big Sky Foxtrotters Association (BSFTA)
The Big Sky Foxtrotters Association (BSFTA) is a Montana based affiliated Chapter of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association (MFTHBA) headquartered in Ava, Mo. BSFTA has currently 68 members located in 7 states. The BSFTA has hosted promotional booths at the Montana Winter Fair, Helena Horse Expo & the Hamilton Horse and Mule Expo.
The Association is now hard at work preparing for the 7th annual all Fox Trotting Horse Show August 3rd & 4th, 2001. The show will again be held at the Ravalli Country Fairgrounds, Hamilton, Montana in Bitteroot Valley of western Montana. The show will be judged by a MFTHBA certified judge from Missouri. The show will host three categories of horse classes- Versatility, Model (Halter) and Performance. A gait and horsemanship clinic will be hosted on August 5th.
The BSFTA has been fortunate to obtain Eli Lilly Corporation as a Corporate sponsor for the 2001 show. Eli Lilly will be sponsoring three (3) trophy saddles which will be awarded to the Versatility High Point Horse/Rider, Youth High Point Award & Champion All Around High Point Horse/Rider, Montana Silversmith engraved Trophy Buckles will be also awarded along with the saddles to the above winners. The Versatility Category classes are to show the Fox Trotting horse natural smooth fox trot while doing reining, trail & using type of events. The 2001 show is planned to honor the Forest Firefighters efforts during big wildland season of the year 2000. The other 2001 planned even is the 2nd annual Fall Gather Trail Ride & Camp Out, August 24, 25, & 26, 2001. This event is planned for the West Fork of the Madison River, in the Gravelly Range Mountain of SW Montana. The area is approx. 30 miles south of Ennis, MT or 30 miles NW of West Yellowstone, MT. We all have our fingers crossed that our planned summer events will not be canceled by Forest Fires as occurred to the above events in 2000.
