Youth of the Month - Margaret George
Margaret George lives in Deer Park, Washington with her parents Gene and Kathy, and her sister Betsy. She started riding at the age of five with some help from two older neighbor girls. She was a natural, sticking to the horse like a fly. Her first Open Show was at the age of six, and she came home with two first place ribbons in her age group. In 1996 at the age of ten, she won the 14 year and under all-around buckle in the IEBHA Open Show Series. She has been a member of the Spokane County 4-H Horse Program for the past five years. The past two years, Margaret has represented Spokane County at State Fair in Puyallup, as a member of their Intermediate Team. For the last three years, in her respective age group, she has been the county's Horse Judging Grand Champion and this year she also received her Gold medal in Showmanship.
In her first Dual Open Appaloosa Show, she and her horse MacDonna brought home several first place awards. She ended her 1999 Appaloosa show year by placing in the Top Ten in the 4-H category of the the National Appaloosa ACAAP program.
When not with her horse, Margaret makes time to be on the Honor Roll at school, do many community service and education events with her church and 4-H club. She also participates in school sports, snowmobiles with her family, and to just 'be a kid,' with a smile that will brighten your day.
This young lady is a credit to the horse community and the 4H program.
