“Youth of the Month”
Taylor Jacklin

Barnbum’....kind of an unusual name for a teenager to refer to herself in her e-mail address......but then again, Taylor Jacklin is one unusual young lady...in a good way that is!

Taylor Jacklin is 14 years old and resides in the foothills of North Spokane. She has the personality type that longs to take in every “unfortunate” animal awaiting a good home. She looks after a dog, cat, four family horses, and a donkey. But her prized animal is her very “fortunate” registered Paint horse, ‘Rain’.

Rain entered Taylor’s life by pulling on her heart strings just as every other animal on the farm has. In her father Glenn’s words “Rain was trained as a cutting horse and grew up on a 30,000 acre ranch penning cattle. The rancher, Linda, called me one day and asked if I would be so kind as to board her horse for the winter. I think she had an ulterior motive as she knew my daughter would fall in love with Rain, giving her the upper hand in horse trading”.

Taylor and Rain had a great first season. In 2006, their first time together as a pair, Taylor achieved top times in Spokane County 4-H, overall for the year, in the Intermediate category for Barrels, International Flags, Pole Bending and Figure 8.

Taylor earned a trip to compete at the prestigious State Fair in Puyallup, WA in September for a chance to compete against all corners of the state. The competition level was certainly cranked up a notch. The duo achieved blue ribbon success in the Figure 8 event and received ribbons in the other three. It was a tremendous learning experience for both newcomers and we are very excited to see what 2007 has in store for this dynamic duo!

In addition to her 4-H activities, Taylor attends Northwest Christian school where she is on the Honor Roll. She is quite an accomplished singer and recently performed a solo at her school Christmas program. She also is on the basketball team and enjoys hiking, snowboarding and snowmobiling.

Keep an eye on this young lady.....she is a go getter!
