Massage For Your Horse

Massage should be good for your horse. Expert massage as a craft may have exceptional physiological benefits to your horse. It can increase blood flow to tissues and increase lymphatic flow. The technique can stretch and warm muscle tissues for relaxation and relief from spasm. Abnormalities in tissue may be inhibited and therapeutic release of endorphins may relieve pain. The three basic massage techniques are:

Effeurage--a light, preparatory, introductory way to note areas of increased tension and to calm an anxious horse.

Petrissage--a stretching of individual muscle bundles. This is a more powerful way of utilizing kneading motion.

Friction--a way of stroking beneficially in deep and sweeping motions to provide intense therapy for a specific anatomical area.
