Spokane Country Living Expo
"For folks who live in the country or dream
to someday"
The Country Living Expo will be held in the Spokane Fair & Expo
Center March 22-24. In its third year, the Country Living Expo has
doubled in size to offer exhibits and seminars designed especially
for country home owners,
property owners and small-scale growers. Growing numbers of urban
residents are moving to the country to escape the frenzies of city
living. In Spokane County alone over 32,000 landowners live on small
acreages of just two to 80 acres.
The Expo features acres of exhibits including tractors, animal
care products, building supplies, and country home furnishings.
Over 60 hourly seminars, specifically designed for people with
two to 80 acres of land, include pasture management, building ponds,
horse care, landscaping with native plants and growing for market.
Youth and Family Attractions: The Aslin-Finch petting zoo offers
a picture-taking area with baby farm animals. Saturday is Aslin-Finch
"Free Chick Day," when 500 baby chicks will be given away with the
purchase of a 25-lb. bag of feed.
The Country Living Expo is coordinated by the Agricultural Bureau
of the Spokane Regional Chamber of Commerce, a 501 C (3) organization.
A portion of show proceeds is used to provide natural resource education
programs through the Northwest Natural Resources Institute. These
programs include the Model Farm, held in cooperation with District
81 Schools, that provides 2,500 third grade students with a "life
on the farm" experience and teaches them how agricultural producers
bring food to their tables.
