Our youth of the month is Katie Witham, daughter of Dr. Lloyd and Pat Witham of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. She is 14 years old and attends Lake City High School, where she is a freshman. Katie and her beloved partner, Sonny, have proven to be some of the toughest competition at the North Idaho Open Shows. Under the guidance and coaching of her instructor of five years, Sandy Johnson, they have acquired numerous high points and all around awards for many years. A few of this year's awards include the Open Youth High Point at the IEBHA Summer Celebration in July. She also sewed up the Year End Youth Performance Award for the Inland Empire Buckskin Horse Association. Katie loves to show but she also knows about all the hard work and dedication it takes to stay on top. This lesson helps in all her other activities as well. She plays basketball and soccer very competitively and still carries a 4.0 average in school. Where she takes all honors classes. Katie has briefly started her Quarter Horse show career at the breed show and agrees they can be a little intimidating but stepping up a level will be fun and challenging. There might also be a new partner for her in the near future. New horse, new challenges. We are sure Katie will continue her show career successfully. Katie is truly a great example of our youth of today. Best of luck in the future.
