North Central Washington Horse Breeders Association: Welcome to Horse Country!
A non-profit organization that is located in a very beautiful and unique part of the United States. The area we encompass is somewhat sparsely populated and derives most of its economy from agriculture and recreation. There are four distinct seasons. Residents and visitors enjoy hot summers, great fishing and hunting and the best winter sports opportunities offered anywhere. In short, North Central Washington has something for everyone, including a diverse group of dedicated horse breeders striving to produce a quality product. This association was formed in 1996. The purpose and scope of the association is to improve and promote the registered horse industry in North Central Washington and is open to all breeds. Our goals is to bring attention to the breeders in this area and provide avenues for our members to market their horses and services.
In a short time, the accomplishments that we have achieved include four successful stallion parades, three breeders sales and an informative NCWHBA Directory. We also put on poker rides during the summer for fun.
The stallion parade and breeders sale are annual events. The 2000 stallion parade is schedules for Saturday, March 4 at 11:00am. It will be held at the Okanogan County Fairgrounds-Agriplex building in Okanogan, Washington. The stallions will be stalled on the grounds for closer inspection before and after the parade. In the past, there have been anywhere from 33 to 45 stallions participate, including leading sires of cutting and reining horse, NCHA certificate of ability horses, AQHA reining point earners, an APHA Champion, ROM Halter, numerous sons of World and National Champions, and AQHA Champions to name a few! Breeds include Appaloosas, Arabians, Fjords, Paints, Pintos, Percherons, Quarter Horses, Quarter Ponies, POA's, American Walking Ponies, Shetlands, Tennessee Walkers, and Rocky Mountain horses. This is an excellent opportunity for mare owners to meet and talk to the stallion owners in person and to view some of the best stallions in the Northwest, all under one roof! A stallion service auction will also be held during the parade. A few of the stallions going through the parade will have their services auctioned off. The proceeds from the stallion service auction go toward a scholarship fund that will be presented to an area graduate in 2000.
During the stallion parade, each stallion performs to music in the background while an announcer talks about them. There is a program given out to spectators before the parade.
The NCW Horse Breeders sale will be held on March 4 following the stallion parade. This association is working hard to establish a quality sale that both buyers and sellers alike can count on. To obtain that goal, the breeders consign horses that they are proud of and willing to guarantee.
For the first time, in conjunction with the 2000 stallion parade, there will be an all breed bull, registered heifer and ranch horse sale. This will all be Sunday March 5 at the Okanogan County Fairgrounds-Agriplex building in Okanogan. The Ranch horse sale will be first, starting at 1pm.
The ranch horses will go through a sifting committee one month prior to the sale. Only horses that pass all of the criteria will be eligible for the sale. Criteria includes registered horses ages 4-12, easy to catch, tie, load, unload, bridle, saddle, handle feet, stand while being mounted, back, walk, trot, lope and be ridden through a pattern. All horses will have a negative Coggins, be vet checked and guaranteed sound. This will be your chance to purchase that honest, well broke horse that you have always wanted. At this premier two day event, there will also be good food, beverages, and a trade show! Please consider this as your personal invitation to come see our horses and visit the various farms and stallion owners in beautiful North Central Washington. We have something for everyone. Watch for our ad in the February issue.
